Should I be my boss or should I have someone as my boss Pros and Cons

If I were to own a business there advantages which may work to your benefit. Firstly the money earned is mine to reinvest in the business, save or even pay myself. The clients are in contact with me not someone who may have very little interest in the welfare of my business, with this in mind the customers are likely to refer the business to others if they are treated well. The hours of operation will most likely be suitable to me as I will also be accommodating to the customers. There is also the prospect of experimenting with new ideas to help to market the business and in turn make more money.  I will be passionate about the business as it will be something I will want to do.

However, there is the downside to being my own boss, such as having to invest saving, taking a loan or whatever form it may take to get the business running smoothly. Also,I must make certain the business is definitely providing a service or the goods the customers needs, as this can lead to just making enough money to keep the business going and very little or none for saving or paying oneself. Then there aspect of limited free time as I will have to be committed to making the business work, so little or no vacations or me.

So what happens if I work for someone: there is definitely the payment at the end of the week, or two weeks or month. Also,there is the vacation leave received every year and is paid for. There is also the medical, insurance benefits in which some businesses provide for their employees. Some businesses provide pension or thrift fund for their employees. The working hours are fixed and any hours worked beyond the set limit is paid extra. The disadvantages of being employed are there is no avenue for the employees to give ideas as to how the business should be operated in terms of marketing, customer service or general input which the employee may see as valuable.

Despite the good benefits of having your own business I would rather to be employed.

Back yard gardening can be beneficial to a home as it can provide fresh produce for the consumption, as well as bring in that extra needed income.  This can in turn become a small business where one becomes an entrepreneur in their country.

WIKI CREATION REFLECTION

The portfolio piece created was a wiki page to aid in the classroom. This piece provided interesting facts about volcanoes and a diagram to study. There were a few challenges one was the video selected after converting it to make it suitable for viewing it was to large, so i had to make an alternate selection. I also had problems posting the wiki to the blog. I resolved this by asking a classmate for assistance, I had to give my post a name, press compose on the new post page then link, highlighted the URL on the wiki page and then pasted it to the new post page and I press preview to ensure it was there, then I published the wiki.This piece can be improved by placing more activities for the students to get information in a simple way.

VIDEO CREATION REFLECTION

I was asked to create a movie for my students to be used within the classroom.  I used Windows Live Movie Maker to make this video on volcanic activity. This video will be used to show volcanic activity in the world. It provides information on the parts of a volcano, the destructive nature of an eruption, and the long term effects in that of fertile soil, precious gems and stones made due to volcanic activity. While making the video I faced a few challenges there was an insertion of a short video, the video had music and both music was playing at the same time, I realized I had to cut the main music at that specified area and allowed the music from the video to play then put back in the other music. I had to used  the YouTube down loader to change my needed video so it could play. My movie could be improved with the use of narration on some areas to explain a bit more to what the students are looking at.

WIKI IN THE CLASSROOM

The wiki can be a valuable tool in classroom instruction in that it can provide a hands on approach to the students. Homework can be placed on this media for the slow writers within the classroom, also students who may be absent can read notes given, study information needed for next class or for a test. it can be used to provide additional information which cannot be given in the classroom time setting.

VIDEOS IN THE CLASSROOM

In a classroom there are many different types of learners and as a teacher we tend to cater for the auditory learners. The use of  videos can help the visual learners and it is a tool where the students can view and review the information and make notes.  The use of videos can help to stimulate classroom discussion based on the activity planned.
